Tae Kwon-Do Competitions

During your training in Tae Kwon-Do you will get the opportunity to enter competitions.
We have the opportunity to enter many competitions with as many as 13 or more available to enter throughout the year – this is one every 4 weeks.
This can be a large commitment and is not expected to be made by any student; in fact it is totally up to you. You can enter everyone if you like or opt to not take part at all – this will depend what the student wants out of their Tae Kwon-Do.
Competitions can vary from a small inter-school Tae Kwon-Do championships with maybe 300 competitors up to an Area, National, International and World Championships some with over 2000 competitors. These competitions are held all over the world with the best Tae Kwon-Do practitioners taking part.

The opportunity of becoming a champion is a big drive for some students. The Mark Farnham Schools of Tae Kwon-Do have, in the last 20 plus years, gained countless champions ranging from area to 25 world champions in 2007 alone, some of our students are the best in the World.

Each event is divided into different divisions, so that Men, Women, Boys and Girls are all in separate groups. These groups are then split into divisions of grade and size.

There are three main areas of competition Tae Kwon-Do:

Tae Kwon-Do Sparring

This proves to be possibly the most popular form of competitive Tae Kwon-Do.

All T.A.G.B. Tae Kwon-Do sparring is touch (light/Semi) contact with two different types:

Point Stop Tae Kwon-Do Sparring – the fight is stopped each time a fighter gains a

point, the point is registered and then the fight restarts until the next point or end of fight.

Continuous Tae Kwon-Do Sparring – the fight runs continuously for a set time (a round) the fighter who scores the most points at the end wins.

Tae Kwon-Do Patterns

Patterns are a set sequence of Tae Kwon-Do movements done in a set order to show technique, power and many other aspects of Tae Kwon-Do.
The competitor performs the pattern in front of judges and is awarded points; the competitor with the most points wins the division.
You win titles at Tae Kwon-Do Patterns; many of our students have achieved many high level awards over the years.

Tae Kwon-Do Destruction

Carl Grimes(Kings Lynn) 2 Times World Destruction Champion

This is where the competitor breaks boards with either hand or foot techniques. The boards are usually special ‘breaking boards’ designed to break under a certain load and then reassembled.
The Competitor who breaks the most amount of boards wins.
The techniques used are normally set and the competitor will have previous knowledge of these techniques so that they can train and focus on that event.
